Macular Degeneration Vero Beach FL,

Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration is a deterioration of the central portion of the retina, the inside layer of the eye that records the images we see and sends them through the optic nerve from the eye to the brain for processing. The macula, or the center of the retina, is responsible for focusing central vision in the eye and controls our ability to see and process information.

Cataracts Vero Beach FL,

Cataracts

Cataracts cause a clouding of the lens in the eye, making your vision appear to be foggy. Cataracts are the most common cause of vision loss in people over 40 and are the leading cause of blindness in the world.

Your eyes are meant to naturally adjust to normal light changes, adjust focus, and allow us to see both near and far. Your lens is primarily made up of water and proteins. The proper arrangement of these proteins is what contributes to normal vision. Some of these proteins clump together forming a clouding of the lens.

Dry Eye Treatment Vero Beach FL,

LipiFlow Dry Eye Treatment

Here at Treasure Coast Opticians, we are proud to offer LipiFlow Dry Eye Treatment to our patients. This unique treatment is designed to remove any blockages from the meibomian gland and treat dry eye symptoms. In the past, dry eye has primarily been treated with prescription or over-the-counter eye drops, dietary supplements, and punctal plugs (also known as tear duct plugs). LipiFlow treatment provides relief similar to these remedies but in a more effective, safe, and drug-free way.

What Causes Dry Eye?
Many symptoms of dry eye are a result of Meibomian Gland Dysfunction, which causes blockages that hinder the production of oil, which helps prevent your eyes from drying out. These oils also help protect your eyes from environmental variables that can negatively impact the health of your eyes, not to mention your comfort. Without the protection of these oils, excessive reading and television use, dry climates, and heating and air conditioning can all have adverse effects on your eye health and can contribute to dry eye symptoms.

How does LipiFlow work?
With the LipiFlow treatment, we can clear blockages of the meibomian gland through a combination of heat and massage to the outer and inner eyelids. By removing these blockages, your eyes can return to their natural functionality so that your dry eye symptoms are treated with natural tears rather than artificial ones. This treatment is not only extremely effective in treating dry eye, but it is a quick, non-surgical procedure that we can do in a single office visit.

Is LipiFlow Safe?
Here at Treasure Coast Opticians, we use only the safest, most effective products to treat our patients. LipiFlow treatment is designed only to apply pressure and heat to the eyelids, so your eyeball and the structure of your eye is never affected. Our highly trained staff would be happy to help answer any additional questions you may have about your treatment.

Although many schools offer annual eye exams, they are not complete visual exams and the results can be inaccurate. For this reason, you should schedule yearly or bi-yearly examinations to ensure that your child’s eyes are healthy and that he or she can see clearly.

Frames Vero Beach FL,

Frames

There are many different styles, shapes, and materials to choose from when picking out the best frames for your lenses. This can sometimes be an overwhelming and difficult decision, but at Treasure Coast Opticians, we are happy to help you find the best frames for your specific wants and needs. Although frames are primarily a style choice, they are also affected by prescription strength. High-index prescriptions may limit which frames can support your lenses, but our friendly opticians are happy to help you find the right solution!

Frame material is also an important choice that needs to be made when choosing your frames. For our patients with metal allergies, we offer several options in alternative frame materials such as plastic or acetate. Since plastic and acetate frames are generally not adjustable, it is crucial to get the proper fit. Stainless steel frames are also an option as it tends to be less irritating than other metals for those with sensitive skin. Titanium is another alternative, and they are incredibly lightweight as well as durable and hypoallergenic.

Digital Retina Imaging Vero Beach FL,

Digital Retina Imaging

Using a digital camera system, our optometrists at Treasure Coast Opticians can clearly see and examine your retina, located at the back of your eye. This examination is critical to monitoring the health of your eye as well as to the early detection of many medical problems. The pictures generated through retinal imaging help us identify problems with your vision and can also help diagnose other medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, or even brain tumors.

Digital retinal imaging is important because, often, vision or eye problems can develop with no clear symptoms. Subtle changes in your vision can be hard to detect and diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, or retinal tears may only be visible through these images. Even in healthy eyes, retinal imaging is important as it allows us to track changes in your eyes over time so we can better predict and prepare for common issues that affect eyes as they age.
